Meta Develops AI Chatbot with Abraham Lincoln’s Personality, Reveals Report

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is actively engaged in the development of a series of artificial intelligence (AI) powered chatbots, each designed with unique personalities, among which is the persona of Abraham Lincoln, as reported by the Financial Times.

According to an undisclosed source familiar with the matter, the tech giant is considering a potential launch of the ‘Lincoln chatbot’ as well as a ‘surfer chatbot’ that would specialize in providing travel recommendations. These AI chatbots could potentially hit the market as early as September, offering users a novel and personalized interaction experience.

The move comes as part of Meta’s concerted effort to emphasize its dedication to AI, aligning itself with competitors such as Apple and Microsoft, who are also prioritizing advancements in artificial intelligence technology.

Just last month, Meta made headlines across the tech industry when it declared its intention to release the code behind its AI large language model, Llama 2, as an open-source platform, with Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, asserting that open-source AI solutions offer greater safety and security.

Meanwhile, Meta is grappling with the challenge of retaining users on its latest offering, ‘Threads,’ a Twitter-like platform. Although it initially garnered considerable interest and signups during its recent launch, the platform has experienced a significant drop in user engagement, losing more than half of its user base.

Despite facing such challenges, Meta recently reported a promising surge in advertising revenue, signifying a positive turn after a challenging period that necessitated the downsizing of its workforce, affecting over 21,000 employees.

Notably, Meta’s initiative to develop AI chatbots with distinct personalities isn’t an isolated effort in the tech industry. Other companies, such as Character.AI, backed by Andreessen Horowitz, have ventured into creating chatbots with unique personas, including figures like Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk and the popular Nintendo character, Mario.

As of now, Meta has not issued an official statement regarding the reported development of these AI chatbots.

The emergence of AI-powered chatbots with distinct personalities, including one modeled after Abraham Lincoln, represents an intriguing development in the tech world. As the competition in the AI landscape intensifies, Meta’s foray into the realm of unique AI personas is likely to fuel further advancements and innovations in this rapidly evolving field.
